Jiu Jitsu is the perfect martial art for children, here are just a couple of reasons:

1 . It is a non-violent yet effective self-defence system. Jiu Jitsu is based on leverage and technique and gives a smaller person the ability to defeat a larger, stronger opponent.

This effectiveness in being able to defend yourself builds confidence in your child and gives them the power to say NO to bullies and walk away from confrontation.

2 . Jiu Jitsu uses the principles of action – reaction, leverage and base. Children learn to use an opponent’s power as an advantage, rather than fighting force with force.

We practice many different games that help children experience these principles and learn to understand how to use them effecively.

Children become more ‘Body Aware’ and develop their co-ordination, which leads to self-confidence and discipline.

Not only do children learn how to effectively defend themselves, but also strengthen their physical abilities so they can excel in other activities.

At the Andy Roberts Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy in Farnborough we aim to provide the very best level of technical instruction and safety for your child to learn a Martial Art.

Andy has been training Martial Arts since he was 8yrs old and has personally seen the benefits from the training. He has been a professional instructor for over 17 years. Andy fell in love with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 1999 and trains closely with the Gracie family (founders of the art). He travels once a week to London to train with Roger Gracie who is considered the best BJJ practitioner of the current time.

We follow a structured curriculum and have plans for each lesson ensuring your child will be learning as well as having fun.

All our instructors have enhanced DBS checks, public liability insurance and are first aid trained.

The belt system for children in Jiu Jitsu reflects their commitment and dedication to training and is illustrated below

At Andy Roberts BJJ you won’t see 5,6,7 or 12yr old Black Belts, you can only achieve the rank of Black Belt when you are 18yrs.
